authors, spiritual growth, edification, and enrichment of
the Church. In order that we as Christians may understand
the way of the Lord we must diligently read the Scriptures.
"Study to show thyself approved unto God." (2 Timothy
2:15) God reveals the mysteries of His Word, the Bible, to
His servants and they in turn by the inspiration and guidance
of the Holy Spirit write down God's revelation. These revelations
or God-given messages are written in book form so that Christ's
glory may shine on His children as they make covenant with
Him and follow His Word without compromise. "And because
of all this, we make a sure covenant, and write it; our leaders,
our Levites, and our priests seal it." (Nehemiah
9:38) So in addition to God's Word, Biblical expositions written
by godly men and women help to edify and teach
believers how to walk in purity before God.
Remember
Moses and the prophets. God commanded them to write down His
Words so the people of Israel could be nurtured spiritually.
God continues to ask every person who is called by His name,
to not forsake mercy and truth but to write His law on the
tablets found deep within their hearts. (Proverbs 3:3) How
is this possible? First, God's people receive the revelation
of God's truth through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Second, they write down the message of God through different
means, such as books, music or video. Third, the believers
must hear the message.
It
is important to realize that hearing the voice of God
is necessary for spiritual growth. Reading is one of
the most powerful ways God uses to get His people to hear
and heed His voice which in turn will edify
their souls. Equally true, is the fact that ignorance
or lack of reading limits spiritual growth. Satan's plan is
to divert God's servants from doing the work of God by keeping
them in the dark concerning God's righteous will for mankind
- that all men will be saved through knowing Him and His Word.
Reading about God's truth through revelation in a book reminds
us how to be wise and how to avoid the pollution and entrapments
of the devil.
Scripture
says,"If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord
your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His
commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of
the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians.
For I am the Lord who heals you." (Exodus 15:26) Also we read,
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your
heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and
shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk
by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall
bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets
between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of
your house and on your gates."(Deuteronomy
6:6-9 and 11:20)
Did
you know that God has books in heaven which have records
of our life on this earth? Everything we have said,
done or thought has been recorded. And do you
know these books will be opened and read on Judgement Day?
It is something that everyone should consider seriously. God,
through His Fatherly love, is willing to do everything He
possibly can to see that the bride of Christ, the Church,
is spiritually equipped, purely dressed and ready for the
coming of the Bridegroom, His loving Son, Jesus Christ.
Are you ready for His sudden coming? Let me remind
you again that we as believers must study to shew ourselves
approved. What are you waiting for? Equip yourself and
be ready.
